Ah ha, we have the same problem at our house with everyone wanting to eat
every one else's food and filling up that which is not good for them.
However the feeding frenzy for that which is not yours also includes the
dogs as well.
Of course, I, the alpha ferret, cat and dog, want everyone to eat their
own food so they get the proper nutrition and don't fill up on something
that isn't formulated for them. You know how it is....if it isn't good
for you it tastes better...
So here is what we did...
....The cat's food is in an area with a baby gate with a round top so
the ferrets and the dogs can't get into it...
....The ferret food is in the cage with the top door open. The ferrets
climb up and down the cage to get into the top door so they can go down
the ramp to feed and food is also in their top drawer in the bathroom,
the bathroom that used to be mine but is now the ferrets, thus
eliminating the cats and dogs from nibbling on expensive ferret food that
is too rich for them....
....The dog's food is fed to them after the ferrets go to bed at night
and is put up before I let them out in the morning...I don't have to
worry about the cats eating the dog food, because that would be beneath
the cats, to stoop to that level...
Hey, speaking of kitties...This big, sweet and beautiful 1 year old
orange and white tabby decided to adopt us in June. I tried to find his
owners, classified ads, flyers, signs on poles in a 2 mile area but can't
find them. He was very thin and hungry so he was on his own for quite a
while.
Thom and my other 2 cats, Cleo my 13 year old calico and my 10 year old
blind tuxedo cat Butchy, just do not get along. There are MAJOR cat
fights and he always wins because he is 3x bigger and much younger.
My poor Cleo and Butch are just majorly terrified and stressed out.
Believe me I have tried everything that numerous animal aid societies
have told me to do, but Thom just terrorizes Cleo and Butchy. He does
like to play with the ferrets and he ignores the dogs.
I love this big beautiful guy. He is a love, but would do better and be
happier in a home without other kitties. He is very cuddly, loves to
purr, likes to help with the computer and wants a human to love only him,
no other kitties need apply.
Anyone in north western Oregon looking for a sweet and lovable tom cat to
adopt? He is a wanderer so should be kept inside or supervised outside.
I really love this guy, but I owe it to my other 2 cats to let them have
peace in their old age. I really will have a hard time giving him up to
just anyone, but my ferret friends know how to love and take care of our
furry friends. I would feel more comfortable if he went to one of you.
Do you have room in your home for a lovable Thom cat?
Ah, the wonders of trying to get everyone to get along and play nice.....
