Home Depots and similar stores SHOULD be getting wood stove pellets in
about now. Having worked for Home Depot, I have to tell you, not everyone
knows what the store currently has, not everyone knows where the item
asked about is supposed to be, and many employees don't think too much
about seasonal items.

Stuff shows up, people are told where the managers want it put, and if
nobody says "hey, that's MY floor space", it goes there. With stove
pellets that may be outside under the overhang, inside close to the
contractors door, or in garden. Or it could be in receiving, waiting for
someone to notice it! Or it could be in receiving and someone found it
in THEIR way and moved the pallet to shelving 20 feet in the air!

The most common location for wood pellets is outside, under the overhang
close to the contractors door - the big roll-up one. Park your car and
check that area first. The bags are stacked on a shrink-wrapped pallet,
and only the top will be uncovered.

Your ferrets will thank you for your diligence in their behalf!
