Sorry to be so late in replying, but the network was down all
weekend..
Cardiomyopathy, often manifested as enlarging of the heart, is a
progressive disease which is very common in ferrets. I'm glad you
decided to take her early. It is treatable in about half of the cases
with various diuretics and heart drugs, but the other half (including
one 8.5-year-old ferret I have at home) don't respond, and continue to
progress in spite of medication.
