We need advise on a situation we had come up today. We have a female
ferret that came from a backyard breeder that was very neglectful and
during her lifetime she has produced a number of beautiful kits we don't
know exactly how many nor do we know how old exactly she is. Our guess is
5-7 yrs. She developed a growth of somesort on her nose we took her to
the vet and they said it is soft tissue but don't know if it is a tumor or
imflammation or a foreign body . They can send a biopsy to the lab but we
are worried about expense, we are housing at least 30 ferrets that need
spayed and neutered along with 9 that need adrenal surgery not to mention
the daily cost of food, litter and routine health maintenance. This fuzzy
has earned the right to live what is left of her life in happiness ,
allowed to dance around and be a ferret. We are at a loss caught between
our love for animals and our realization that her care may possibly take
away from the other healthier, younger ferrets that are in our shelter.
Our current vet bill is already almost at the $1000.00 mark from one
emergency surgery on a different ferret. She is not spayed yet and is
coming into heat so we will put her with a vacectomized male to bring her
out for now . Thank you in advance for your care and concern.
