Hi Heather,
 
Just a thought, but it could be the squeaky toy that's doing it.  I had
a girl, Zhakorati, that was the sweetest thing imaginable, but if you
squeaked a squeaky toy, she would come running and go for your hand.  It's
my personal belief that the toy sounds like a baby being hurt and it's the
maternal/parental instincts kicking in that make the ferret 'protect' the
baby by attacking the attacker.
 
Try keeping a journal of Pogo's actions and reactions and see if you can
find the trigger.  Hopefully it's as easy as pulling the squeaker out of
the toy.
