Osage Oranges may well be poisionous, but that shouldn't be suprising,
since they were wanted as a repellant anyway.  The information (and there
are a number of web sites to choose from) indicates they will repel quite
a lot of known household pests.  One site said that if a more powerful
repellant is wanted (than just setting the orange out) to run over it with
your car then pick up the remains and place them where they are needed!
 
I don't believe anyone who was planning to use something to repel pests
would think it might also make a cute ferret toy!
