Dear X - This is a case in which a photo would be worth a thousand words.
I agree with Mike in that a cutaneous neoplasm is probably the most likely
possibility here. There are two most likely possibilities - a sebaceous
epithelioma which appears as a raised warty, often scabbed lump, and a
mast cell tumor, which is a flat, scruffy or scabby area.

However, the key here is that you get it removed by your vet and sent off
for analysis.
