This has been the year of ferret traumas and surgeries. First was Rocki
and a cancerous kidney removed. He lived 9 more months and finally died
of cancer in many of his other organs.
Silveretta, who while we lived in Puerto Rico had been treated for Adrenal
with Lupron, showed symptoms again 11 months later. Her left adrenal was
removed and her recovery was fantastic. She was up and around the same
night.
Then there was Dexie, who had a cracked bottom fang and had a root canal
done. He's healing well.
Mika decided that a blue blanket looked eatable and wound up with an
intestinal blockage, spending two days in the hospital, special food and
again is finally doing well.
Now it's Silveretta again. After her adrenal surgery, which at the time
the main symptoms were swollen vulva and enlarged tits, she began to loose
the hair on her back. I thought it was the old hair , from the left
adrenal and that it would eventually come back. Many times it looked like
she had that black-blue color on her back, when it starts to grow back,
but it never did. So we just kidded her and called her "bare-back". Well,
it's been 8 months since her left adrenal was removed and her vulva is
swollen again. Plus she is beginning to loose the hair on the tail. So
far there is no muscle tone loss. My vet also thinks that it is probably
the right adrenal, but is not comfortable with trying to remove it as he
does not have cryosurgery experience or equipment. Silveretta will be 7
next month and I have been vacillating about whether or not I should put
her through surgery again. Then I also don't want her to get an infection
from the swollen vulva either.
I live in Tampa, Florida now and need to know where is the closest vet with
right adrenal removal experience. If anyone can help me, please e-mail me
personally at [log in to unmask] I'd appreciate any help.
And thank you all.
