Here's why:
Itches are SERIOUS things to ferrets... they MUST be scratched VIGOROUSLY.
 
It's a violation of ferret law to scratch an itch in the place where the
itch occurred.  The reason is that if you're a ferret sleeping in a pile
of other fuzzies, and begin to vigorously scratch... there'd be a passel
of mad ferrets with black eyes and bruised ribs... the itching ferret
could easily get lynched... therefore the "Run first, Scratch second" law.
 
Four or five good itches a day are about average for a healthy fuzzy.
More than that, you might start watching for things like dry skin (curable
with a good ferret diet) or allergies to carpet cleaning products or
laundry detergents.
 
Stitches: I'd have them removed.
