I told some people I'd post this poem I wrote for a poetry course about my
spiteful ferrets! My poetry teacher told me that Plight wasn't quite the
word she'd use in the poem but I didn't change it because it sounded neat
in the title.

The Plight of the Spiteful Ferrets
Based on a daydream my husband and I came up with...
By Julia Todd (April 6th 2001)

It was only yesterday they were house pets, gentle and sound
today they escaped and are running throughout the town pillaging and
laughing as they make their evil rounds.
Four cunning ferrets run in a line down the street
knocking on doors they scurry unnoticed past resident's feet
it was only yesterday they were house pets, the neatest to meet.
Stealing any keys or rings or cat food to be found
they scamper with little rapid legs not far from the ground
pillaging and laughing they make their evil rounds.
Seems no cat is excluded from their plight
and though with a hiss and a spit, the cat still loses the fight
it was only yesterday, who knew they were house pets planning with spite?
A woman and child stand surrounded not making a sound
as the ferrets mock and bark and dance around
pillaging and laughing they make their evil rounds.
The police, National Guard, SPCA are called to assist
all the while four slinky thieves are amiss
it was only yesterday they were house pets, docile furry mounds
as they pillage and laugh and make their evil rounds.
