Hi!
Our names are Pat and Donna. We live in a small town called Chatham,
New York with our 3 "new" ferrets named Snowball, Fred, and LizzyBorden
(Because she's so CRAZY!). The three fuzzbutts were adopted on Sunday,
January 6, 2002 from The Educated Ferret Shelter in S. Hadley, Mass. from
a ver wonderful ferret lover named Donna. Donna is VERY well educated
in ferrets and everything about ferrets! She also is very loving to her
temporary family members as well as her permanent family members! I would
like to say "THANK YOU DONNA!"
We have, as I said before, Snowball who is an albino who is (approx.) 3
years old. He is cuddly, loveable and likes to give kisses on our noses!
Fred who is a black sable and (approx.) 4 years old and is very shy!
He would rather climb under a blanket than be held! Then there is
LizzyBorden (Lizzy for short). She is a (approx.) 5 year old who is a
small ferret who loves to sniff EVERYTHING! She also likes to climb on
people because then she can sniff them everywhere! Lizzy is a special
ferret - she had adrenal surgery only about a week before we got her! We
don't know what color she really is, but I think she will be a silver
color when she gets all of her fur back! We may have only had the little
critters for just over a week, but we have fallen in love with them
already!
Both Pat and I are volunteer EMTs(Emergency Medical Technicians) with
Hoags Corners Ambulance in Hoags Corners, New York and volunteer
firefighters for Tsatsawassa (pronounced Ta - sa - wa - sa). I also work
as a professional EMT for Southern Columbia County Ambulance Service and
Pat works as the technical assistant to the physics dept. at Hudson Valley
Community College.
We decided a little over a year ago that we wanted to get ferrets. We
couldn't have dogs as they aren't allowed in our housing development and
Pat is very allergic to cats. That left us with trying to figure out
what kind of animal we could get! We thought of hairless animals, but it
turns out they have dander too! Then we heard about ferrets! We heard
how smart they are, how playful they are and how loveable they are! We
decided that before we could get an animal that we knew NOTHING about we
should probably study it first and we also had to find out if Pat was
allergic to them! So, we bought the book "Ferrets for Dummies" written
by Kim Schilling (in cooperation the pet experts at Howell Book House)
and published by IDG Books Worldwide. What a GREAT purchase THAT was!!!
Well, once we read the book, we had to see if Pat was allergic - so we
went to a local pet store and played with some ferrets for a while and
Pat didn't sneeze ONCE! He also didn't have any breathing problems!
YIPPIE!!! We then got in contact with Donna @ The Educated Ferret Shelter
and the rest is history!
We may have only been owned by ferrets for a little over a week, but the
fuzzbutts already have us in training! And they also have already stolen
our hearts and put them in their hidey holes!
Blessings!
Donna, Pat, Snowball, Fred and LizzyBorden :0)
Smile! :-)
