I think that part of the disagreement is arising in relation to what
memories folks have.  Some of us have been around long enough to remember
when ECE ripped through and that in the early years a large percentage of
those who got it died.  Shows were a major way that it spread.  Some folks
recall that and don't want it repeated; others don't so they are more
likely to see other aspects of the discussion such as false negatives --
esp.  since there have been those with positive tests who were treated
badly in the early ADV years and that is recalled since it wasn't long
ago.  Experiences change how things are weighed.
 
If we were going to show (We don't.) we'd test first just because we'd be
heartbroken if we infected someone else's ferrets.  "Do unto others..."
and all that...
