Sounds like what you are feeling is her spleen.  The normal spleen is in
that area.  My Booger has an enlarged spleen and it starts just below the
ribs and run down most of his abdomen, but that isn't the norm.  You
probably don't need to, but a trip to the vet just for evaluation (and
your peace of mind) would be nice.
