preop prednisone

Brutus glucose is in low 20's.  Surgery scheduled on Friday.  I asked to
start prednisone today thinking he would be in better shape for surgery.
Will this increase the risk of surgery, or decrease the risk?  Will it
increase the risk of postop infection?  My vet left the decision up to me.
(I'm unsure of dose, as it is liquid and the Rx says 0.1 ml twice daily,
but does not say how many mg that is).
