Hi all!
 
I volunteer at our local Humane Society and recently a woman called us
needing help with two ferrets she had aquired.  A friend of hers was moving
and couldn't take his fuzzies, so she took them.  I don't know much about
them, but they're in a cage and let out to play for a few hours a day.  Her
problem is that when they are IN the cage they don't use their litter boxes
like they should.  (My ferrets only use their litter boxes the way they
should WHEN they're caged.)
 
Anyway, we told her to let them out more frequently and for longer periods
of time.  Maybe they're just bored and are rebelling.  She says she does
that.  We told her to watch them, make sure they go in the litter box,
place them in the litter box if need be, and then reward them when they
do it right.  She says she's tried that.  We told her to put more litter
boxes in the cage, and bedding or food where she doesn't want them to go.
She said she's tried that, but it hasn't worked.
 
Does anyone else have any ideas?  I'm wracking my brain and reading
everything I can.  I can't believe that these ferrets are completely
untrainable.
