Hi. When we move to our next home in a few months and have a little more
room (and no roommate to be bothered by it, though I don't know that ours
would) we were thinking about using a kiddie pool for our rice box or one
of those little turtle sandboxes with the cover for little kids to fill
with rice so they have a lot of room. Right now in our press3ed-for-space
apartment, we have a very large Rubbermaid tote container filled with about
40lbs of the stuff that they love to snorkle in. We hide a film canister
with rice or treats in it that makes noise and they go hunting for it, or
they just wrestle in it and dig. When they're done, we can just put the
lid on it and put it away; again, we're limited on space. We were thinking
that in our new place a kiddie pool might work 'cause they'd have a fairly
large area to play in and we could maybe slide it under our bed or keep it
in the finished basement. The turtle with the lid would be a nice way to
keep it covered when not in use. We've also considered cutting another
"door" in our cage and running a tube from the cage into a covered rice
box in a Rubbermaid container. Just some ideas!
