The results came back from Samantha's necropsy today. I don't have the
full results I was just told that she did have cancer in her liver & that
is what killed her. She also had benign hepatic lesions, & accumulated
fat, which I was told was caused by not eating.
This I don't understand at all. I know she was eating. I saw her eating.
I gave her food & she took it & ate it. If she hadn't been eating she
would have lost weight, I would have known. The only time I don't know
if she ate, was the night before I found her. I know she didn't eat her
treats when I put her in the cage before I found the blood. I know she
took her treats the morning before that & ate them.
As for Tommy & Sammy, they still don't know what is going on with them.
They keep saying that it could be a virus, or they got sick from the
chicken, or have an infection of some kind. The chicken is prepared very
carefully & I don't feed it raw. Out of 16 ferrets only Tommy & Sammy
wouldn't have a problem would they if it was the chicken? They have found
no signs of e. coli, except for the good ones. No sign of Salmonella.
Sammy was taken off Baytril & is now getting Pepto Bismol & Metronidazole,
but I don't know why since they don't know what is wrong with him. When he
was at the emergency clinic from yesterday noon to this morning he did have
bloody stools again. But they didn't find any more blood in his urine.
Dr. Haeussner said that his stools will be dark like blood from the Pepto
Bismol. Now how do I tell the difference?
Grizzly isn't sneezing as much but now a couple of the big boys are & a
couple of the girls, so I am suppose to put them on Amoxi. I sent Max with
Joey this morning to pick up Sammy & take them both to Dr. Murphy's. Max
has spent all of Saturday & Sunday sleeping, except for eating & using the
litter box. So because I am getting paranoid, off he went to get checked.
Naturally at the vets office he was bouncing all over the place & showed no
signs of anything being the matter. None-the-less I am suppose to put him
on Amoxi also.
I trust Dr. Murphy quite a bit but he hasn't been the one treating these
guys. Dr. Haeussner has. He has good credentials & all of that but I
just don't have as much confidence in him as in Dr. Murphy. Should I have?
All of these vet visits have been pretty much on an emergency basis & Dr.
Murphy either wasn't there or was busy with other patients & I have been
assured that Dr. Haeussner knows what he is doing.
Medical costs today. Emergency Clinic--$205.00 Dr. Murphy's ---$160.60
