Hi.  Someone wrote a while back looking for a source of Proglycem that
cost less than $140, which is about what we used to pay.  There is a
pharmacy out of Texas, Good's, that charges $90 or so for the whole
commercial bottle, which is chocolate flavored and lasts way longer than a
pharmacy-mixed suspension.  Our Wally liked it and, before we first tried
it I called the pharmaceutical company that makes it and got a list of
the added ingredients and ran them by our vet, who said they are safe for
ferrets.  Good's Pharmacy's phone number is 1-800-491-0074.  I also get
commerical pediapred from them for a good price.  They are always cordial
on the phone and, while sometimes it takes a day or so longer than I'd
expect to receive things, the service is fine.
 
Also, there is now a flagyl available that can be put on the ear flap and
is absorbed into the skin.  Our vet has found that is works well.  It
requires a special FDA approval to prepare so it may not be easy to find
a pharmacy that will prepare it.  I think this flagyl is around $35 (for
the amount our vet prescribed, pretty standard).  It is close in price to
Biaxin, so I might tend to use that first for ulcers, in combination with
the rest of the ulcer protocol.  I don't use oral flagyl because it causes
so much stress and then unwillingness to eat at times when eating is
really important.  I use Panacur in cases of giardia and Biaxin for
helicobacter/ulcers.  Anyway, though, if anyone would like to pursue the
