I'm no longer a frequent poster here due to the overall tone of the list
being very dark, argumentitive and my personal health not allowing limited
energy to continue what I once was able to do.

This is my first and probably last post on the subject. Timmy's onelist
(details in my sig. to sub.) is where I'll post continuing info and also
info I didn't have time to present at the first international ferret expo
held last year in Toronto.

I'm doing somewhat of a historical/geneological study rather than a
"medical" that very good people are looking into. I'm also starting an
exchange of non-medical helpful ideas of treatment similar to what helped
my Timmy recover from "terminal lymphoma" years ago.

The first study results indicate that some anti-bodies that the test is
looking for may be present without active virus componants. This is based
on lack of symptoms, lack of mutual positive tests in ferrets received from
the same breeder ( in other words, of 2 ferrets received at the same time
in the same carrier over a year ago, one is positive testing, another
negative, both showing no symptoms over a year after receipt. Of almost
30 other ferrets in the same room, none tested positive.) Another case has
two ferrets testing positive two years after receipt, none of the other 6
present at the same home are postive testing.. (3 were present at the
time of receipt 2 years ago, 3 are new comers of some 9 months ago.) All
8 ferrrets are behaving normally, no aleution's symptoms or even slow down
of energy. This case describes my ferrets.

All of the above tests I can personally vouch for having been present at
sample time & sent the box thru my fedex account. They used the avecon
saliva test. Details on testing is at http://www.avecon.com/AveconADV.htm

A positive note I can mention is of Sam's New Zeland ferrets, the only one
I so far found with any sickness symptom has been exposed to a known
positive aleutions' ferret that came from a United States facility. He
did not give it to the other ferret.

I find it a mind bender that the Great Lakes ferret association that this
person is a part of I'm told is refusing to post the information that the
ferret is contageous in their news letter, even though he's been handled
at shows in the area. . Flames on this will not be read or responded to.
Life is too short and energy too little to waste on that. The pace of
dangers we are having to face seems to be accelerating, and the time to
lead, follow, or get out of the way has come. I personally will try to do
some of all three.

An important fact to prevent panic is that an early casual study done in
the 1980's by Dr. Susan Brown tested over 500 shelter ferrets using the
United Vaccines CEP test. Approximately 10% tested positive for ADV,
however only two of those ferrets went on to develop clinical signs
consistent with ADV. There are two points to be gained from this study.
One is that ADV is not uncommon in the general ferret population, and two
that many if not the majority of clinically normal ferrets that test
positive of the CEP test for ADV will not develop clinically evident signs
of AD. Details are at http://www.geocities.com/russiansmom/med-info.html

Take care, hugs to all who desire.

trouble.
