I don't use carpet, I use canvas.  The kind of thing in plastic, use for
crafting, you pass trought some wool or cotton thread, you see what I mean?
 
I don't use thread on them, I just use my hot glue gun, put some on the
ramp and glue the canvas in place.  With that my ferrets doesn't have
anymore problem going up or down the ramp.  The square are just the good
size (like 1/8" x 1/8"), and they never had problem with claw being stuck.
