I just wanted to thank everyone who responded so quickly to my question
about drooling, lethargy, and red footpads in my 6-year-old ferret.  I
got all kinds of good suggestions.  After reading everyone's replies, I'm
starting to think it might be insulinoma.  We're heading to a ferret
specialist first thing Monday and I'll be sure to have her do a fasting
glucose test to check this out.  If it is insulinoma, I'll get Unagi Inu
started on the treatment right away.
 
In the meantime, I bought some Karo syrup in case he has another episode
(so far he hasn't).
 
I'll also be sending some information on insulinoma and its symptoms to the
other two vets we saw, so they'll have a better chance of recognizing it in
the future.
