This may work for some.  What I did was put a piece of 1x2 welded wire over
the outside area of my window the hose is vented out of.  The wire will
clog with lint sometimes so I just pull the bottom of the wire out from
behind the screw and pull out the lint, then push the wire tight behind
the screw.  If the ferrets get to the hose and climb up, the wire is tight
enough that they shouldn't be able to budge it.
