I based this on a song called "Ride Forever", which figured in an
episode of "Due South". If you've never watched the show, you've
been culturally deprived - *very* good TV show!

RUN FOREVER
by Paul E. Jamison
Melody by Jay Semko & Paul Gross

Well, I was born some place called Marshall's, 1988.
My Mommy loved her little ones, 'till they took us all away.
Where my brothers and sisters went, I couldn't really say.
Ooh, shiny thing - I think I'll hide it!
Well, that pet shop was a sad place, when I was all alone,
But some nice folks adopted me, and took me to their home.
I have good food and a soft, soft bed; I'm having so much fun.
It's a great place to live; it's where I'll stay
Till I go to that pretty Rainbow sky.

We're gonna run forever!
You can't keep ferrets in a cage!
Should the angels come, then we'll go and play
'Neath the Rainbow Bridge.

Some humans call us rodents; that shows how much they know!
Folks can be so ignorant; I wish it wasn't so.
When I think of other ferrets, without the happiness I know,
It hurts so much - oh, so much.
Many ferrets are neglected, abandoned and abused.
Some humans try to help us, but how much can they do?
So many hurt and know no love - you ask us if we cry?
Hell, yes, we do - look at all those tears!
They're falling from that pretty Rainbow sky!

We're gonna run forever!
You can't keep ferrets in a cage!
Should the angels come, then we'll go and play
'Neath the Rainbow Bridge.

Now I am an old ferret, a long time I've been blind.
My back legs don't work any more, they have to drag behind.
But my humans they still love me, and play with me all the time.
And I ain't gone, no I ain't gone!
So I say to all you old ferts don't let life get you down.
You can still have lots of fun, with the loving folks you've found.
And when it's time for me to leave this World and all the pain behind,
I'll do a Happy Dance! I'm gonna run like stink!
I'm gonna tear across that pretty Rainbow sky!

We're gonna run forever!
You can't keep ferrets in a cage!
Should the angels come, then we'll go and play
'Neath the Rainbow Bridge.
