From what I understand (and I'm not positive that my understanding is
correct), allergies to ferrets are somewhat rare, but not unheard of.
Allergies to ferrets are confirmed through a blood test.  I had one done
about a year ago, and thankfully, I'm free of ferret allergies.  I never
spoke to my allergist regarding allergy shots for ferrets, but someone on
this list had mentioned that her doctor made a special serum for her.
