An interesting dilemma.  I have a "tilt-down" door also in my cage and
covered it with the same fabric I use to make hammocks.  It only covers
part of the front of the cage and it drives me crazy that they can't see
out of it.  I sometimes see little faces peeking out under it.
 
As for a door that is the whole front of the cage....maybe just cover a
part of it with some sort of fabric??
