We were not without Christmas colds and flu last week. By Friday all the
fuzzies had the sneezes and watery eyes. The Wolf woman was busy with
chicken stock, baby food, pedialyte, the works to get them well. But even
Da Wolfy could not prevent a special someone getting so ill.

Last night Rocky began to have a bit of labored breathing and was loosing
that alertness. We showed Sean how to see these signs, how to empathize
with Rocky, and how to call the "ferret doctor". A teary Sean was an eager
learner. So into the icey cold night air we flew. Chet stayed home and
took care of matters here, while we had Sean hold Rocky in a blanket in
the car as we raced to the vets' office that was being held open for us.

We could hear Sean singing in the back seat to the toon of We Wish You a
Merry Christmas: "I wish Rocky would get better, I wish Rocky would get
better, I wish Rocky would get better...." (it just looped and looped over
and over)" We arrived and things were not bad as we had thought... we
caught "it" before it got very bad. Rocky is on medicines, and is doing
relatively ok here at home.

Today's lesson for Sean is Sean did not want anyone to touch Rocky. He was
thinking that when he was sick how he didn't want anyone touching him, and
how he just wanted to stay in bed. I had to take Rocky out, and teach
Sean...... that everything needs a reason to live.... and they need love to
live. I reminded him of the ferret head party we had when Sean was so so
sick last chrismas. How love, company, and talking helped him get better.
I reminded him of how I sit and sing to him when he has fevers. He finally
understood and sat and held Rocky talking to him in Sean/Rocky language.
