[Two-part post combined. BIG]
>I just read what Sandi Ackerman posted about me.
I posted about the facts of the situation. (BIG would not allow me to post
about you, although I certainly tried.) An e-mail Danielle just sent to
me began: "My advice to you, Sandi, is to remain quiet on the FML." BIG:
Are these threats permitted? Danielle goes on to make additional threats
against me and my shelter in that e-mail if I continue to post what I know
of this situation. I'll be happy to forward her e-mail to whoever might
be interested in more facts.
[Moderator's note: I wouldn't exactly call Danielle's e-mail a threat, but
neither do I condone it. I hope people will continue to forward such mail
to me -- I am not adverse to removing people from the FML for repeated
harrassment of other subscribers. BIG]
Since BIG allowed such a huge rambling post from Danielle, I assume he'll
also allow a bit of rebuttal.
>a "routine exam" and someone called in with an emergency, I would want
>him to take the call. Is that unreasonable?
Not at all unreasonable, but totally inaccurate. Dr. Deeb is constantly
interrupted by emergencies. And as anyone of her clients will attest, they
are routinely interrupted when an emergency arrises. I certainly have
been. I believe that's one of the main reasons, Dr. Deeb is so highly
regarded. Her clients know that if they have an emergency, she will also
respond to their emergency.
>#8 I felt it necessary to contact Deeb and let her know how I was treated,
>what the other vet told me, and ask her why she did not do a blood panel.
>Her response was "I am glad you got a second opinion".
The actual discussion involved Danielle stating that she was the publicity
director for the Washington Ferret Association (WFA) and that she
(Danielle) would "ruin" Dr. Deeb if Dr. Deeb didn't refund her money. Dr.
Deeb also works with the WFA as does our shelter, and that evening over
coffee, she asked who the heck Danielle was. Board members of the WFA
assured Dr. Deeb that Danielle was not even a member of the WFA, although
she had attended a couple of meetings. Dr. Deeb was also told at that
time, of the ongoing situation between the WFA rescue organization and
unfounded accusations being made against them by Danielle.
>I don't know why Deeb told you these things, perhaps it was a different
>patient she was thinking of?
She did NOT discuss her patient, she discussed her CLIENT, Danielle Frye.
>Also, Sandi, the vet I went to after Deeb, was not who you refer to as
>"Dr. Death". I am disturbed that you feel you can say rude things about
>Dr. Nelson and label him to several people as "Dr. Death"...
So what is this doing in the middle of a tirad about Dr. Deeb? I did not
state that you went to see Nelson. *I* did not post anything on the FML
about any "Dr. Death" as you are calling him. But since you bring up Dr.
Nelson, I do indeed not refer people to him. He recommends, and had posted
on his web page that to teach a ferret not to bite, you should "throw it
against a wall." As you are aware, there was a lengthy discussion about
him recommending this as a routine procedure to many of the WFA members.
Judith Moon had it in her ferret adoption contract that people could NOT
take her ferrets to be treated by Skip Nelson, because of Nelson's
"defanging" of ferrets and many other practices.
>Also, the second time I was in Deeb's offices, one of your cohorts dropped
>off three ferrets in carriers for shots. NONE of the carriers had food
>or water in them and the vet staff did not have room to unload them into
>a larger, clinic cage. I insisted they give the ferrets water and food
>after finding out that they would probably be waiting for shots for over
>two hours
<sigh> Not much of your post is accurate, Danielle. The definition of
a "cohort" is "a band of warriors." I believe you intended to say, a
"volunteer." However, because we have so many ferrets and other animals
needing veterinary care, we do NOT drop off ferrets at any vets office for
shots. Dr. Deeb comes a mile down the road and gives the ferrets their
exam and vaccinations at the shelter. An egotistical vet wouldn't lower
themselves to leaving their clinic. We also work with several other
veterinarians in the area who visit our shelter. When we have an emergency
then we will take that particular ferret to a veterinary clinic and we do
provide food/water to the ferret UNLESS the ferret is there for surgery or
teeth cleaning. You're aware I'm sure, that ferrets do NOT get food or
water until after they wake from the surgery...often more than two hours
of time passes.
>(because it was so busy with emergencies).
Gee, I thought you said Dr. Deeb refused to see *your* emergency, yet she
is so "busy with emergencies" (plural)?
>plus I have heard that Deeb has given you discounts.
>Hmmm...who is concerned with money?
Is anyone shocked that a veterinarian will give a non-profit shelter
"discounts"? Is anyone shocked that a non-profit shelter "is concerned
with money"?
>It would certainly be interesting to see how Sandi would feel about her
>if this were to happen to one of her "personal" pets.
I don't have any "personal" "pets." I run a no-kill shelter and that
means that I care for all of the unwanted, unadopted animals who enter our
shelter for the remainder of their lives. These are my companions, they
are not my "pets," I respect and value animals.
ALL animals in my care receive equal medical care, regardless of costs. If
they need blood work, we find the money to pay for it. Our largest expense
at the shelter is veterinary bills. I'm certain that all of the shelter
operator's on this list will tell you the same.
>I appreciate that Deeb has been good to other patients and I may have
>caught her on a bad day.
Certainly Dr. Deeb would have a bad day when one of her clients is
screaming at her.
>There is NO EXCUSE for her lack of compassion or lack of apology.
And she is still waiting for one from you.
