Hi Folks,
I am hoping to get some advice on H. Mustalea (spelling?)
I adopted a little blaze girl, Panda, about six weeks ago. Took all the
precautions I knew to do like not letting her meet my crew until a Vet
visit and I still waited for two weeks for them to meet. Apparently my new
little girl was a carrier of ECE so she gave it to my crew. She however
never got sick. I didn't realize that because she didn't show signs didn't
mean she couldn't give to to my kids if she had already had it. I didn't
not know her history at all.

Both boys were handeling the ECE well. My other little girl I've had for
one year, Chi, didn't do as well. I fed all my version of duck soup and
pedialyte and boys did well for awhile. After six days and they seemed to
be getting worse at this time, off to the Vet we went. He said they had H.
Mustalea, a stomach infection. .They were given Flagyl and amoxicillian.
After only two days little Chi was eating on her own and doing real well.
I was giving meds for five days. After the five days Chi was back to
normal but boys still didnt' seemed only a little better, so off to the Vet
we go again. Vet tried to get blood from boys but could not get enough
for CBC blood work. They were a little dehydrated so he gave them Sub Q
fluids. That was probably because they seemed to drink so much on their
own I gave less pedialyte. I recommend keeping the fluids going steady for
them. All he could tell me is that they appear to be holding their own,
and if I didn't see atleast a little improvement each day to bring them in.
He gave me a prescription for the Flagyl and amoxy. It was torture taking
the meds the Vet gave me the first time, mixed with liver flavor and bubble
gum, so he sent me to a compounding pharmacy and we mixed some fruit
flavors. They do take it better washed down with pedialyte. Please, if
anyone has advice on how long it your kids to get better or what to look
for I really need advice. By the way the duck soup I use seems very
appealing to all but one of my guys who takes it alright, but others lap it
up is: One can of the Hills Scienc Diet A/d food, one can of gerber chicken
baby food(small blue jars) a teaspoon of Ferretvite and a teaspoon of
peanutbutter. Look forward to hearing from you folks. Thank you so much
in advance.
