Rochelle,
Thanks for asking. I did post a note to the FML about it, but I didn't
save what I posted. So here's a little bit of what I did.
The cage was in pretty bad shape after all. There is a large hole rusted
through the bottom. The wire around the hole is rusty too, and each time I
touch it, another piece falls off. The slide-out tray had a rust spot that
covers about 1/4 of it. I still have it on my porch, but my fiance warned
me to get rid of it. I think I'm just going to toss it, unless there is
some very industrious person out there that wants to restore it.
The carrier fell apart. There were a couple of hooks missing (it's the
kind with a separate top and bottom) and the door springs were broken. The
handle on top also broke off while I was cleaning it. So I tossed it.
The water bottles, food dish, leash, and litter boxes I kept. I didn't get
any responses from anyone who needs them, so I'll hang onto them for now.
The offer is still open: If any shelters need two water bottles, two corner
boxes, a ceramic food dish, and a leather leash, let me know. I'll be glad
to clean them up and send them out.
As for contacting the vet, I figured it wasn't really my place to go that
far. It just gave me a creepy feeling when I thought about tracking the
situation like that. I just pray that the poor guy (his name was Gitch,
according to the prescription bottle) is safe and at peace, be it at the
Bridge or in someone else's home.
