I would add to that however that US Customs may require more-- it's been a
few years since I last crossed the border with ferrets, but I recall that
you do indeed need the health certificate, even when driving, to bring the
ferrets into the US.  The certificate must have been issued in the previous
30 days.  Having the health certificates can also help "prove" that the
ferrets you are transporting are indeed yours and were not purchased in
Canada, should you encounter extra suspicious types at the border (last I
knew, you had to pay duty if you bring more than $800 worth of stuff into
the US, which is only a few brand new pet store ferrets).  Best bet is
to call the USDA and ask them for the current requirements(though I'd be
willing to bet you get transferred all over the place while somebody tries
to figure out the rules on ferrets! :)
