In regards to the thread about receiving a thank you from a shelter or
individual that you've helped out, I can see both sides of the issue.  On
the one hand, as the original poster stated, in some cases he or she wasn't
even sure if the donation sent had been received, since there had been no
acknowledgement at all.  But on the other hand, I can also see that it's
possible, especially for a small shelter that happens to be very
short-staffed, that even though the recipient would love to thank people
for their generosity, there just might not be enough time in the day.
 
Here's a suggestion that would be beneficial to both parties.  When sending
a donation, how about enclosing an SASE with the request that the recipient
drop it in the mail when your donation is received?  It would then only
take a second for the recipient to write a quick "Thanks" on a note or
index card and then pop the envelope in the mail, and that way the person
who had donated would know that their gift had indeed arrived.
