i am posting very anonymously because i am choosing to speak out about this
shelter/breeder that candi is talking about taking these petstore ferrets
to in aimes, ia.. please note, candi too, that i am not flaming or calling
anyone names-but i feel it is important for everyone to hear what kind of
situation these ferrets are trying to be thrown into. maybe someone off
the list lives close enough to make a trip to this shelter candi is
speaking of....they will see i am not over reacting and they too would have
the same feelings as MANY others do. first of all, i know EXSACTLY
which shelter youre talking about, it is known by many people in the aimes,
ia area....it is very unmistakable due to his setup. so not to be accused
of slander, i will not openly leave the name of the operator or what his
shelter is called.. i have been to this shelter/breeder, have seen it
and have no misunderstandings to what i saw. these cages youre talking
about....main cage is on front porch, correct? it is a tall, narrow combo
cage and ALL (except the jills, who are taken out and put in a nusery JUST
before giving birth) of the ferrets are kept in this cage including the
breeding ones. resulting in very possible inbreeding because theres no
way you can stop them and you can see it if you look at the ferrets. very
small males, some being even smaller than the females....all have the
exsact same coat texture, color, etc.-i cant swear he inbreeds, but you
can tell me what you would think seeing this situation and saw the ferrets
first hand. the porch is not insulated nor do any of the outside cages
have any sort of protection from the weather. they use this long black
plastic piping that leads into the ground, up into the front yard tree and
all the way back to the garage... i am very appaulled that you would make
such a big deal about these poor petstore ferrets and then want to just
put them right back into a bad situation. can you really tell me theyd be
better off in a little porch cage, that leads out to cages with no shelter?
what if they dont get along with other ferrets...how long will it take him
to find them dead or hurt up in the cage in the big tree or the back of the
garage? what social benifate towards humans will they really be getting?
and considering these ferrets were from a breeder and not marshal farms,
what says they arent his own ferrets? i can tell you now, if i took one
look at them i could tell you if they were his or not-thats how much alike
everyone of them looks. . im sorry.....i really am, but i have seen this
shelter/breeder and being licensed does not make him a reptuble place. i
have found out in the past that i am not alone on these feelings, that
many share them and are just as appaulled as i am. i do not go around
slandering them or what not....its rare they even come up in my
converstation, but when i read todays fml, i just couldnt believe what a
big fuss you were making about these petstore ferrets and then how you
wanted to rescue them into the arms of a place theyll be no better. i
encourage anyone off the fml in the iowa area, to look into this...you
would see what i mean and that im not over reacting or being sarcastic. i
know many are going to be mad at me, think how dare someone speak against a
shelter that is willing to take these poor ferrets-but i hope you can also
see, that theyd be better off left in the petstore than in outside cages
leading all over the place with little to no attention. i pray for
these babys and that you will change your mind or try to find them a
different place to rescue them too. i know youre heart is in the right
place, but i hope you reconsider what youre trying to do and look into
other options. i also apologize if i hurt any feelings, especially
candi-im not trying to hurt anyone. just share what i have seen and
feel-ferrets belong indoors, with daily playtimes. if anyone disagrees
with this, then i dont know what to say-except, i never thought id see the
day people would encourage ferrets into worse situations theyre all ready
in. i hope someone will step forward and offer candi some help, so she
wont have to resort to this shelter/breeder. . god bless!
