Many of you may remember the story of Ben the ferret that had bit and
electrical cord and had a big hole in the roof of his mouth. The operator
of the Dook Nook took on the responsibilty of saving this litte guy form
a horrible fate. It seems that another person has taken credit for this
monumental task and has sued the operator of the Dook Nook for possession
of Ben. The Dook Nook operator was never informed of a hearing and kept
checking with the court as to a date for this hearing. Well today this
"other person" showed up at the Dook Nook with a deputy sheriff and seized
Ben and another ferret named Jeremy.
I cannot believe that this person has the ferrets best interest at heart as
he still needs to be fed soft food every four hours and has to be watched
very closely as the skin graft he received has not completely healed. The
person that now has taken possession of Ben is very seldom at home where
Ben can be given the proper treatment and care that he needs and deserves.
This person had no interest in Ben until it was learned that the AFA wanted
to do a feature article on him and they could get all the notoriety.
This is the same person that came down so hard on Modern Ferret about the
Holloween Issue and Bob Church has received his share of her wrath. How
can we as a ferret community allow a person interested only in the fame
and acclaimation of something like this get away with this type of sneaky
back-stabbing treatment of a dedicated shelter operator. It is my opinion
and mine alone that this person should receive the kind of treatment this
person has been dishing out for several years now. This person has left
ferrets under her care at several different shelters and has never returned
to take these ferrets, or even check on there welfare or help pay the vet
bills that were incurred taking proper care of these abandoned ferrets.
I myself have four here that were left over two years ago and have never
even been checked on. One had major surgery for adrenal and insulinoma at
the same time. Another has Cardio-myopthy and is on heart meds every other
day. A third one keeps getting mast cell tumors at least once a week
However the fourth one is rathe healthy, small but healthy. I cannot
understand how this person can call heself a shelter operator when on the
road everyday fot up to ten hours or sometimes more. How can the sick
ferrets there be given perper feedings and medication if no one is there
to look after them. The ferrets are always kept in secret, no one gets to
see where or how they live and when she does happen to adopt one out she
takes the ferret and meets the adoptor in a neutral place, I don't consider
that a good operating policy. Some may disagree with but I like possible
adoptors to come here so I can see how they react with the ferrets and the
ferrets interact with them in their own enviroment. I have very carefully
refrained from using names except the Dook Nooks which I have received
permission to use. If anyone is interested in helping us get Ben and
Jeremy back where they belong please contact me private e-mail so we can
keep the fighting off the FML.
