I just got a phone call about this, but am handling this by mail since --
for security reasons -- we never buy over the telephone with calls we
receive. The caller said that the herbal version of the PDR has been
updated, with the new edition costing $54.95, which sounds about the same
as the first edition if memory serves. Now it includes 700 herbs as
opposed to the prior 600, has expanded sections on holistic medical
approaches and Asian herbs, and features a large section on herb and drug
interactions (a really essential thing to know about if herbs are being
given). Worthwhile addition to a library if as presented. She said they
are getting orders from vets as well as from physicians, with one vet
telling her that they had a terrible time tracking down a long standing and
puzzling intestinal problem a dog was having till they used the last PDR.
Yes, sadly people do cause problems as well as helping them if ANY type of
medication is used improperly and that is what happened to that dog. I
asked for details but she didn't recall them. Of course, here on the FML
we've seen both helping and hurting used when meds are done wrong -- with
EACH type of meds -- so this won't surprise anyone who's been here a long
time.
