I have done a modest amount of research into air cleaners/ionizers.  While
these devices do work, there are two significant caveats.  The first is
the stuff on the floor and walls problems.  The second is more severe.
Ozone is very reactive.  That is how it "cleans" the air.  If you do the
research, NOT data supplied by the manufacturers or by their captive
scientists, but real scientific studies you will find that very small
amounts of ozone can be, at least an irritant and possibly a health hazard.
The information I have found indicates that the "safe" levels may not be
truly safe.
 
It is very easy for us to say "I would never use cedar chips the aromatic
oils are an irritant to my pet".  However, we may be doing the same thing
with ozone generators in an effort to keep our home "fresh" smelling.  I
like the way my ferret smells.  I keep the cage clean and do not feed fish
based products.  The fish makes the poop smell bad.
 
Very few magic solutions are.  Not all science is bad.  Never trust anybody
selling anything or do you believe cigarettes are OK?
