I read in Ferrets magazine that " the American Heartworm Society advocates
the use of the monthy Heartguard for Cats for use in ferrets. These are
very small, tasty, chewable tablets designed for cats that weigh less than
5 pounds. These tablets are also readily acceptable by many ferrets."

This article was written by Dr. Deborah Kemmerer. It is a very scary
article. She states that if you live in an area where mosquitoes occur,
your ferrets are susceptible to heartworms. Heartworm disease can be
fatal to a ferret within a few weeks. And treatment is only about 60%
successful. This is an excellent article and appeared in the Jan./Feb.
2000 issue. I'm going to get Chance on the preventative this year. Has
anyone used the cat tablets that she recommends?
