Condolences to those with lost, sick or angeled fur-brats.

There has been much talk and bashing of Iams, with lots of hearsay and
innuendo being thrown about (my friends' third-cousin's ex-roommate's
mothers second ex-husband's housekeeper's mother heard that a cat that ate
Iams went crazy and lost all interest in playing with yarn!), with those
people firmly expecting everyone to believe them and follow what they say.
In many cases, the people spreading these rumors haven't even tried Iams!
Now, admittedly, the example I just gave may sound a bit silly, but I'm
sure someone out there would just *love* to use that one as proof that Iams
is a nasty food now and will kill all of your ferrets!

Forget what everything else shows. Ignore the statements directly from
P&G. Don't believe any vet or lab or
nosey-rodent-that's-actually-been-to-the-plant-and-can-tell-you-a-thing-or-
two. Instead, try it...or *don't* try it. The only change that appears to
have been made, was a change from rice to corn gluten and sorghum (however
you spell that!). This was done to prevent a problem with blood glucose
and insulin levels. You were all told that by a vet...who I'm sure knows
more about this kind of thing than just about everyone else here. However,
you should even ignore that. No one here is an absolute expert on feeding
ferrets. We are all just experimenting. No one here has the expertises to
say, without one shred of doubt, that a specific set of food contents is
the only perfect food for ferrets.

Instead, go read the labels and decide for yourself. Forget what everyone
else says. Buy what works for you. I feed almost exclusively Iams
original formula and my ferrets are some of the happiest, most energetic,
bounciest and fun-loving ferrets I've ever seen, bar none. The ferrets
that I've rescued over the years (with one exception--Silver Dude, who
appears to have died of old age), are healthy, bright-eyed, silky-furred
and full of vigor. No matter what they were fed before, they all eat Iams
now. Once in a while, I will give them some Totally Ferret as a snack (if
I put it in as their regular food, they won't eat it).

*My* opinion, based on observed results, is that Iams is good for them; it
reduces litter box waste, it provides a complete diet (even my cat has all
the same positive results as my ferrets!) and my ferrets are thriving on
it. However, THESE ARE MY OWN RESULTS. Your may not get the same results,
depending on a great number of things. But let's all stop spreading rumors
about a product that many of you don't even have any personal experience
with.

Try it, if you wish. If your results are disappointing, then tell
everyone. If you haven't even tried it, please, stop bashing it, OK?
Let's all share actual, physical, provable results that benefit the
fuzzbutts. That's why we're all here, isn't it?
