Hi, everyone,
Please pardon the cross posting, but this is worth it!
I just got the pathology report on Pertwee from Dr. Dan Hudson, and I
still can't believe it.
His kidney: polycystic disease. Lots and lots and lots of cysts.
His stomach: mild lymphocytic gastritis
No cancer anywhere!!! None! These two conditions would have resulted in
lots of pain for the little guy, mainly from the kidney, but add an
irritated stomach and somebody just didn't want to eat and couldn't get
well. Dr. Hudson, cautious as ever, doesn't want to pronounce him cured
until he recovers, but considering how well he is doing, things are really
looking good right now. Dr. Hudson called this pathology report "the best
possible result". His prognosis for a full recovery seems to be excellent,
and I am overjoyed.
Also, note that this is in no way related to his adrenal carcinomas. We
had seen a renal cyst on his first ultrasound months ago before his first
adrenal surgery, and things just got worse and worse from there. He's also
had a history of gastrointestinal problems, again unrelated. What probably
got him into such bad shape was that all of this hit at once.
So... is it ever worth it to spend $4,000 on a single ferret's medical
bills? Is it worth it to put him through three surgeries? Let's put it
this way: I hope now not only to post about Pertwee's third birthday, but
also his fourth, fifth, sixth, and who knows? :) He clearly is already
feeling better, just two days after surgery, than he has in weeks if not
months. How much is *that* worth?
After all he's been through, Pertwee is going to get WELL! YES!!!!
All the best,
Caity, Keith, and the ecstatic eight, plus one little visitor
