Last week when I wrote about Bandit, I was preparing myself to have him
put down. He was so weak and it looked like he would not get better. For
a couple of days, I held him and would watch the clock, thinking, "Well,
in a few minutes I will call the vet and set up an appointment to take him
in." Somehow, that time never came, and then it would be too late...the
vet was closed. So bandit would get another day.
He was living TOTALLY on Bob's Chicken Gravy, sometimes being force fed
with an eye dropper. After a feeding Monday, he wanted DOWN. Figuring
what the hell, at this point he will get whatever he wants, we let him
toddle and weave around the house. Little Valentine shadowed him. When
Bandit fell over or stopped to rest, she would flat spot next to him.
When he got up and moved on, she was with him. Amazing.
It is now Saturday, and Bandit is back in the big cage since mid-week. He
still gets a couple of cubes of Chicken Gravy a day, instead of one. He
only stays out to play about one-half hour, and crawls back into the cage.
BUT!!!!! Friday and Saturday he wanted a raisin. It was the first time
since last Thursday of last week. He loved raisins before, but refused
them for a week. His eyes are brighter, and he munched on a dog biscuit
yesterday.
When I think that last Saturday I came within minutes of having him helped
over the bridge, I just have to laugh. BANDIT IS STILL WITH US!!!!!! How
long? Don't know. Don't care. I just know that he and we have had this
last week. A week I did not think he would have.
Bandit is old. He will never be what he was a year ago. Again....don't
care. He is what he is, and he is still here. That is all I care about.
