I have an ederly ferret, Baby, with adrenal who I take to an exotics vet
in charlotte. My vet did not feel that Baby was a good surgical candidate
because of him being over 7yrs old(not sure of exact age found as a stray).
At the time the only medicine my vet had known about for adrenal was
lysodren. I read about that and wasn't too keen on it. I practically live
on the internet and look for ferret info all the time and so for the time
being I started using natural remedies. Baby gained weight and grew a
thick coat and was doing well for almost a year. Now, Baby is starting the
weight loss and hair loss due to the adrenal combined with the change in
seasons and loss of long time ferret friend Loki. I email my vet and ask
him about Lupron about 2weeks ago. He responds that he'll look into it and
try to find a pharmacy that carries the drug. Then I email him again and
let him know about Dr. Weiss who happened to be my ferret vet when I lived
in Md providing a link to his web site and new phone number.
I am told to be patient that he is looking for a pharmacy and that his
brother an MD mentioned another drug to look into. I am not worried about
the hair loss or weight loss(that I can control by upping calories), I am
worried about the urine dripping and my vet had told me it could cause a
blockage that would stop urine flow. As I said my vet in MD was Dr Weiss-
was I spoiled by him or should it be taking my vet this long to get Lupron.
Is there another vet in the charlotte area who can provide it? Should I
wait and be patient? My vet seems to be a good guy and only does exotics
but it is just him in his practice and he may be busy but what about Baby?
Also what should I be expected to pay for Lupron( I heard $200, which is
fine).
