Well, this is what we did, since my mom said absolutely no ferrets at the
ceremony/reception (they were at the same place).  We bought some little
black footed ferret figurines (found them at Hallmark type stores, I
believe) and went to a local ceramics store where we were able to paint
them to look like our ferrets.  The cake people actually hid them among the
flowers on the cake, so they were not very conspicuous, but that's actually
kind of a ferrety thing to do.  At the time, we only had five, so it wasn't
too hard.  With nine, it would have been more difficult to fit them all on
the cake!
