For the Totally Ferret people:
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!
I have been preaching the benefits of Totally Ferret for quite a while.
I have been a ferret person (shelter, rescue, etc. of the Eastern Iowa
Ferret Assn.) for about 18 years. Over that time I have learned sooo much
information of ferrets, their health, their care and most importantly,
their nutrition. After discovering TF all of us at the EIFA have always
ordered this most important food! For our very first ferret (around
1982-83), not too many vets were well-versed on the care and feeding of
the fuzzballs. We were told to feed him Meow Mix or Iams Kitten food.
Needless to say, we did this, and after 3 years got another ferret, and as
you know, another, etc. Well, Jackson, the first little guy, developed
Cardiomyopathy and luckily we found a good vet who knew about ferret health
where we were at the time. He put Jackson on a couple of meds and he lived
another 9 months. He was not thrilled with the fact they were eating Iams
Kitten Food and over the counter stuff. Then we started getting other
health problems - adrenal cancers, etc. When we moved to Iowa City, we
found a vet who was a ferret specialist! Jumping for joy, we talked to her
about nutrition and got all 8 of our kids, at the time, physicals. She
told us to change their diet to a lower fat higher protein food. At that
time ferret food was still pretty much non-existent. We switched to
Science DIet light cat food, and were finding that their life expectancy
went from about 5 1/2 years to almost 7 years! But I thought they were a
little underweight and coats were not as nice as they should be.
Luckily, TF came along and we mixed the two! SUCCESS!!! Now I will NEVER
use anything else! I have fuzzbutts of all ages now - from 10 months old
to 8 years old. I mix the Active and Older TF with a bit of SD Light for
extra fiber (a trick our great vet discovered). This is undeniably the
very best thing I could have EVER done for my kids. They are active,
shiny, full weight (not fat) and living sooooo much longer. Needless to
say, we have definitely had our share of illness and deaths, burying over
20 ferrets from disease, etc., you just can't get away from these things.
But they are definitely healthier for a longer time, and the quality of
life is so much more wonderful for them because of a good diet.
THANK YOU for all your hard work and research finding the best possible
diet for our little guys. I choose this food (even tho a little more $$)
over any other (like ZuPreem, etc.) You should win an award!
