Dear Ferret Lovers

The Ferret Food Debate

Much has been written on the subject over the past few days.

If you read the comments, it is clear that many owners "feed their Ferrets"
Kitten or Cat food. In Web Sites where "Food Ingredient Charts
<http://geocities.com/petsburgh/farm/3398/food.html> "are produced you will
see they list Magnesium and Taurine levels.

High Magnesium levels are associated with urinary tract problems IN CATS.
This first occurred with the advent of dried Cat foods, and is now
controlled by balancing the pH level of the Cats urine.

Similarly, the ancestors of Cats ate meat, and nothing else! Meat is full
of Taurine and as Cats evolved their ability to make Taurine themselves was
lost. It MUST therefore be added to their food. This is peculiar to Cats.

Added Taurine (and low Magnesium levels) of course, will not harm Ferrets,
but it is clear that cat food is developed to meet the nutritional
requirements of Cats.

"FERRETS CHOICE" Complete Ferret Food has been developed by veterinarians
specifically for ferrets. Companion's Choice Products, who manufacture
Ferrets Choice, also manufacture Complete Cat Food, and the two recipes are
different, because Ferrets and Cats have different nutritional
requirements.
