My ferrets love to screw with me with their playing dead technique.

The first time this happened was about a year ago. I let the other two
monsters out of the cage, and noticed Snowball was still sleeping in her
hammock. So I went to wake her up. I tickled her. Nothing happened. I
then poked her, shook her, picked her up. NOTHING! Her body was limp.

I shouted "DAVID! SNOWBALL'S DEAD!" and burst into tears. Dave yelled
"WHAT?!?" and came running into the room. By the time he got there,
Snowball opened her eyes, yawned, and started to lick my tears.

Over an hour later, I was still sitting on the couch sobbing. It's a scary
thought thinking you just lost one of your little angels. That 30 seconds
of thinking she was gone just broke my heart.

This has happened to me over three times now. Not once, has it gotten
easier. I've only owned ferrets for two years and have never lost a pet
besides a bird and fish. God-willing, my babies will be with me as long as
possible. I don't know what I'm going to do the day my little one doesn't
wake up.

Personally, I think the little monsters are plotting on us. They are
probably all laying around bored when one of them says "watch would I can
make mama do". Then afterwards, they all go under the dresser and have a
good giggle. :o)

God bless all those who have lost their hearts along with their pets...
and those who someday will.
