Well, for all the hell I've raised about ferret rescues and such, I should
be ashamed to admit that last night (Wednesday), my daughter purchased a
baby ferret. Tori has been wanting to a baby for a long time, only one of
our 6 was a purchase, everyone else was a rescue or adoption of some sort.
The most two being the old guys who came home on January 15th.
We were out shopping for new shoes, some sweatpants for her to sleep in and
were on the way to the record store for some new CDs when we passed the
Petco. Now, for starters, this is a wonderful Petco who is pretty ferret
aware, the manager has fuzzies of her own and their babies are treated
pretty well, in a very large enclosed home - no shavings in sight! That is
true of all their little creatures. Anyway, I needed cat food for Jim's
kitty (so this is all his fault in my logic). We stopped for a case of
food and Tor took off for the ferret cage. They usually only have two
fuzzies in at a time, but hey, my luck, they had four cute fuzzies there.
Tor of course went for the one that looked most needy - a teeny, tiny
little dark sable with a black nose. She had a fuzz more than twice her
size laying on her, but you could see this cute little face poking out. My
initial response, was, 'no, there are plenty of fuzzies that we could give
a home to that are really needy'. Her response, 'but mom, we've helped so
many, can't I have just one baby of my own to raise?'. The kid even has
her own money to spend, so we call home to see what Jim has to say. AFter
all, there are 6 other fuzzies waiting at home for me! Yep, he was a real
tough sell. So home came fuzzy number seven. Tor has named her Angel, she
was born the end of October but looks about 6 weeks old. She will be a
really small fuzz. She is barely the size of Syd's head, but he is such a
big lug.
So, there you go, I admit it, I faltered, I fell prey to those cute
adorable little faces (both Tor and Angel!).
Hugs to everyone!
