My name is Yvonne, I run Fuzztek Ferret Rescue in NJ.  I guess I am also
known as "The ADV Dumping Shelter".  No one set up this shelter as an ADV
shelter but me.  I am not into showing or as you call it politics.  I
happen to have tested one of my rescues in Nov & found it to be positive.
 
I shut myself down because I also tested 10 more & found 5 were+(3
Canadians from a pet shop & 2 others from a pet shop).  During this time
Anne had told me of a breeder willing to give up her stock because
1. they were ADV + and 2. she didn't have the resources to neuter..
 
I thought about it for a few days then called Anne and I told her I would
take them in.  It would be my last rescue cause I am now shut.  She was
surprised that I would do that but she would contact the appropriate
people.  The breeder called me before she would release them to me & I
assured her they would be cared for like they were my own.  I also told
her they weren't going to be used for research and there won't be.  We
discussed backgrounds, their diet, their names and their dispositions.
I don't care what transpired at the show, all I knew is that 17 ferrets
needed a home.  And if anyone knows me they would expect me to take them
in.  My shelter was not set up by any organization to be an ADV shelter.
My husband said that now people will be telling you to take their ferrets
because they are ADV + instead of "I can't take care of it any more" or
"I'm pregnant".  Anne is the only one out there that knows my hubby is not
fond of ferrets & the shelter.  So when I told him after these 17 I was
going to shut down he was semi-happy ,even went with me to pick them up,
but made the previous comment.  So I decided to tell all concerned I didn't
want any people dropping off ferrets because they were ADV +.  So I told
all concerned "the only way I would take another ferret in is: it had a
United Vaccine report stating it was +.  But why would people give away a
ferret because it was +?
 
I never post on the FML but I felt now I had to.  People are getting blamed
for something I choose to do.  Fuzztek Rescue will still be operating out
of Anne's home.  We tested her group and she was neg.(Boy was I glad).  If

heard enough of name calling & accusations.  If I missed something or you
have a ques.  call me please!  Let's get on with trying to help ferrets.
 
I was in contact with the group of people that wrote the release & it was
a joy to hear & talk to ferret people finally getting together to do
something about a ferret problem.  There was no flaming just "What can we
do to help"
