Re: Escher, the five year old ferret. Have your vet run a blood
glucose test on her. It sounds like she may have low blood sugar. If
she does, she may have a seizure. Keep some light Karo syrup on hand
in the eventuality that she does. (Some signs of a seizure are,
drooling, staring into space. the ferret may be very limp or may
have spasms.) Rub the Karo syrup on her gums until she comes around.
Assuming you can't get her to a vet right away. It sounds like
Escher had a mild seizure. When they come out of it, they stagger
around for a few minutes til they regain control. After a while it's
like nothing happened at all. It may take 25-35 minutes for a ferret
to come out of it, so don't panic if it seems like the Karo isn't
working. It's very important that Escher doesn't skip any meals
since that will lower her blood sugar even more. If you notice her
starting to stare off into space, give her something sweet like
Nutrical. That will help to get her sugar up.
