To the Killians and others who want to help the McDowells.  I don't even really
 know what their case is all about, since I am new to ferrets and the FML (what
 issue was it first covered in?), but I gather they are in trouble because thei
r ferret allegedly bit someone.  And they need help.
      I have been thinking for a while that the surge in ferret ownership
would be a fun thing for People magazine to cover.  (It might be a double-
edged sword, if it made some run out to get these fabulous pets without really
knowing what is involved.  But it might help the cause all around, all the
other hand.)  Anyway, if this is generally thought a good idea, someone more
versed with the issues than I should write to : People Editorial Staff, Time &
Life Building, Rockefeller Center, NY, NY 10020.
   To Paul Rahman: Tis I, the very same Janet Williams you have helped so much
on Prodigy, esp. with getting the correct rabies vaccines.  If anyone knows
of a monograph or brochure I can hand out to local vets about ferret vaccines
in general, that would be very helpful.  (You would think they would be more
enlightened, being so near a large urban area, i.e., NYC.)
   On another topic - I never saw an answer to someone's query about how
to change older ferrets to cat food (rather than kitten food), when a kit in
the same cage still needs the growth formula.  This is an issue for me, too.
   No one ever told me ferrets can fly, too.  Our 5 month kit, Sparky, was
foiled in his favorite activity, digging up a particular plant, when we put it
on the top shelf of a six foot tall baker's rack.  We were quite amazed when
discovered that he found a way to get up there anyway.  So now we have dubbed
him "Sparky, the Flying Ferret."
   A final question, as warm weather approaches - is it safe to let a ferret
swim in a regular swimming pool, if they are so inclined?  Will the chemicals
(chlorine and such) hurt them?  My kids are dying to know!
