You may recall I posted last week about a new Ferret Nation cage I
purchased for my kids. The problem I have been dealing with is an odor
emanating from the cage. When I purchased the cage there was a powder
on the plastic trays that were also wrapped in plastic. I cleaned this
off and then found I had to wash the cage with soap and water. That
cleaned it but did not remove the odor. I then tried a spray of vinegar
and water. That seemed to help for a few days. The odor is prevalent
again and after being near the cage, I find when I leave I have a weird
taste in my mouth that I did not have before going near the cage.
I have contacted the company for advice, but I thought in the interim
I would ask for any ideas from the FML problem - solvers. I have felt
it necessary to remove the ferrets from the cage and the cage from the
house. I am sad for my kids because they really love this improved
living arrangements. However, their health is most important and I can
balance their close quarters with more out time til we get a odor free
FN situation squared away.
I think the odor is coming from the metal.
