>How much melatonin should be given to a ferret who exhibits symptoms of
>adrenal disease? Does anyone know of any doctors who practice alternative
>medicine on ferretsI I live in S. Florida. Also, what is BUN?
In the article on melatonin I metioned the other day, the dosage suggested
is 1mg/kg of melatonin given approximately 8-9 hours after sunrise.
There are a couple vets down here that practice alternative medicine and
also treat ferrets. Dr. Russell Swift comes to mind. He has given a
couple of excellent talks on alternative medicine at our former ferret
club's monthly meetings. I think (but not positive) that he plays a role
in the production and distribution of FerretZyme. This is an enzyme powder
that is added to food to replace enzymes destroyed by processing. Then
there's Pam Wood. I will have to track down their contact info and get
back to you. I believe both of them are in Broward.
BUN = Blood Urea Nitrogen
A high BUN can indicate, among other things, possible renal disease,
dehydration, congestive heart failure, etc., etc. A low BUN can indicate
liver disease, malnutrition, low protein diet, etc.
For the ferrets,
Mike
